To make sure you don’t miss an important deadline, we’ve compiled a list of the key dates to remember.
Deregistration for 2009 T4 reporting
The following apply to mutual funds that settle on T+1 or T+3. (Funds that trade infrequently will need to be submitted earlier): - December 11: in-kind (external).
- December 18: in-cash (all)
- December 18: in-kind (internal).
IPPs - December 11: Last day for new IPP application forms to be received at MRS to ensure that the Trust Agreement will be available in time to be registered with CRA for 2009.
What happens if you miss a deadline? If we receive requests after these dates, we will process the transaction before year-end on a best efforts basis. |
RRSPs rollover to RRIF
- December 14: Last day for clients turning 71 before December 31 2009 to convert RSP and LIRA/LRSP accounts to RIF and LIF/LRIF/PRIF/RLIF accounts. If MRS doesn’t receive instructions by this date, the account will automatically be moved on December 21, 2009.
Income Plans (LIF, RIF, PRIF, RLIF) To ensure the smooth, accurate transition of your client’s Income Plan payments for transfers between institutions, MRS will use the standard ‘Canadian & Depository Services’ cutoffs for transfers out of MRS: - December 4: Last day to initiate all Non-ATON Income Plan transfers.
- Non-ATON transfers received after December 4 2009 will be held and processed at the start of 2010.
- December 11: Last day to initiate ATON Income Plan transfers.
- Transfers received by ATON after December 11 2009 cannot be executed until the New Year. Please resubmit the request in January 2010.
MRS will ensure that all Income Plan transfer-outs received prior to December 31, 2009 are initiated and completed prior to January 15, 2010 as per industry standard guidelines. MRS will determine the 2010 payment information and will send the details to the receiving institution so that payments can be made to the client.
