Charles R. Sims, FCA is President and Chief Executive Officer of Mackenzie Financial Corporation and Mackenzie Inc., the company that owns Mackenzie Financial Corporation within the IGM Financial structure. He is also co-President and Chief Executive Officer of IGM Financial Inc.

Charlie has extensive experience in the Canadian, U.S. and international mutual fund markets. A Toronto native, Charlie started his career in 1984 with Coopers and Lybrand within the firm’s audit practice and business investigations group. In 1989, he joined Franklin Templeton’s Canadian operations as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer and was elected to Templeton’s Board of Directors in 1992. In 1993, he assumed responsibility for the sales and marketing groups in addition to the financial and operational responsibilities.

During that time, Charlie was very active in the Canadian fund industry. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) from 1991 to 1997 and served as a member of its Board of Directors from 1993 to 1996. Charlie was also involved in FundSERV Inc. as a member of its Board of Directors.

In 1997, Charlie moved to Franklin Templeton’s international headquarters in California, where his roles included Vice-President, Finance and, since 2002, Chief Administrative Officer, Global Distribution. He worked on issues related to the mutual fund business in the United States, Europe and Asia and was responsible for establishing the firm’s investment business in China.

Charlie re-located to Toronto in 2005 to join Mackenzie Financial Corporation as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Charlie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant and member of CICA.
